Yesterday, the Brooklyn office of the U.S. Eastern District of New York Court indicted Adani in a bribery case.
According to the 54-page chargesheet, Adani allegedly bribed Indian government officers for investments in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Jammu & Kashmir projects during 2021-22. For this, he reportedly took a $2 billion loan from U.S. banks and international financial institutions. This is considered fraudulent by U.S. banks because Adani was required to give an undertaking that he would not engage in unethical practices.
As per the U.S. court, Adani bribed Indian government officers in Indian states. This implies that the crime occurred in India and should be adjudicated by Indian courts. However, there is no case filed against Adani in any Indian court, and no evidence of bribery has surfaced so far.
Then why is the U.S. involved?

Meet Chuck Schumer
- Chuck Schumer has been the United States Senator from New York since 1999 and is a member of the Democratic Party.
- A native of Brooklyn, he is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.
- In January 2021, Schumer became the Senate Majority Leader.
Under his leadership:
- The Senate confirmed the most federal judges during the first two years of any presidency since John F. Kennedy.
- Many judges in U.S. courts were appointed through his recommendations.
Important Note: Unlike in India, U.S. judges are appointed by the Senate.
Schumer’s Alleged Connections
- Schumer is reportedly a close associate of George Soros within the Biden administration.

Schumer’s actions align with Soros’ agenda, including:
- Supporting immigration reforms in the U.S.
- Advocating for the same-sex marriage bill in 2011.
It’s alleged that Schumer has benefited from Soros’ financial backing:
- Soros donated $16 million to Schumer’s PAC in 2021.
Soros has also been a top donor to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden.
Key Appointments in the Judiciary
In March 2021, Schumer recommended three new attorneys for U.S. courts.
One of them was Breon Peace, whose name was proposed for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
- On September 30, 2021, Breon Peace’s nomination was approved.
- On October 15, 2021, he was sworn in as U.S. Attorney.
Breon Peace, who has served since October 2021, is the attorney who indicted Adani in the bribery case.

Judge Nicholas Garaufis
Nicholas Garaufis, the judge of the Eastern District Court of New York, is also controversial:

- During Trump’s presidency, he overturned several of Trump’s decisions, including the attempt to repeal DACA, which protected immigrants.
- In 2024, Garaufis called Trump supporters “racist.”
